In 1988, Albert E. Slone, R.L.S. formed the surveying firm, Albert E. Slone and Associates. He started out with one other employee to provide surveying services in the South Georgia region. Mr. Slone gained an industry-wide reputation as being a leader in the high tech field of surveying technology. Through the years, he has added other survey crews and drafts people to provide "full service" surveying to include commercial site plans and residential subdivision planning.

In 1996, William D. Kent, P.E. joined the firm to add professional engineering services to the list of services provided by Albert E. Slone and Associates. He was formerly the Traffic Engineer and Drainage Engineer for the City of Valdosta. While at the City, he was extensively involved in the planning, design, and administration of several major infrastructure projects. His educational background includes a Master's Degree specializing in transportation engineering. With Mr. Kent joining the firm, Albert E. Slone and Associates was then able to provide more complex technical services, which traditionally requires a registered engineer.

In 1997, the firm relocated within Valdosta and became ASA Engineering & Surveying, Inc. ASA's staff is made up of Professional Engineers, Engineers in Training, Professional Land Surveyors, Land Surveyors in Training, Technicians, Computer-Assisted Drafting Operators, Junior Designers, Project Managers and Clerical Staff. ASA purchased and historically renovated the building at 105 W. Central Avenue in downtown Valdosta.
ASA provides various professional services such as boundary and topographic surveys, environmental consulting and permitting, subdivision planning and design, roadway planning and design, sewage treatment system designs, drinking water system designs, storm water system designs, erosion and sediment control designs, commercial site planning and grading, environmental/wetland mapping and permitting, traffic engineering services, and NPDES environmental permitting and monitoring. The firm provides services for federal, state, local agencies, and private developers as well as administration and inspection of construction projects.

ASA has gained a reputation for providing quality, complete, accurate, and cost-effective designs and services. The City of Valdosta and Lowndes County Engineering and Utility staff personnel have recognized our abilities and professional standards in providing a full range of engineering and surveying services. Recently, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources - Environmental Protection Division singled out our construction and erosion control plans as a model for others to use. The EPD Drinking Water Division has also recognized our abilities by recommending us to assist water system operators in permitting community water systems throughout South Georgia. The Georgia Department of Transportation - Utilities Division recently praised our efforts in providing complete and accurate utility permit drawings. The majority of our clients are repeat customers who know we have their best interest at hand, as well as the best interest of the communities they serve.
