$500,000 CDBG Award
Cook County’s engineer of record, ASA Engineering & Surveying, Inc. (ASA), is pleased to announce that Cook County has been awarded $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for road and drainage improvements along Boone Road and Buttercup Lane. The CDBG program is administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), which uses funds allocated through HUD to support local initiatives that focus on improving living conditions and economic opportunities, particularly for low- and moderate-income citizens. Cook County’s CDBG project will help correct neighborhood flooding and poor road conditions along Boone Road and Buttercup Lane, a much needed benefit to the approximately 80 people in the area.
Initially, ASA played a key role in the CDBG application process, working closely with Cook County and the South Georgia Regional Commission to prepare a detailed preliminary engineering report for the application. Shortly after the CDBG award was announced in early September 2010, ASA joined Cook County for a series of workshops sponsored by DCA and designed to assist municipalities in administering CDBG projects. The workshops were held at The Lodge and Spa at beautiful Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. On October 1, Governor Sonny Perdue presented the $500,000 award check to Cook County during a ceremony at Callaway Gardens.
ASA is currently completing survey work for the Boone Road and Buttercup Lane target area and has begun preliminary design of road and drainage improvements. The project is anticipated to be released for bid in spring of 2011 and ASA will assist Cook County with the project up to completion of construction. ASA is excited to be part of the team on this important project and looks forward to continued service to Cook County and others in the community.
